Calling it an "integrated suite of content management applications," the latest release from Vignette (original developers of the popular StoryServer content management system) has been dubbed the Vignette Content Suite V6, and contains out-of-the-box components from the vendor geared towards the personalization, management and publishing of large volume Web sites. Specifically focused on building and maintaining personal customer relationships, VCS includes tools that help to understand customer behaviors and deliver personalized information to individual customers on multiple devices.

Vignette focusses their core V6 descriptions on the management of content from multiple, internal and external sources; the analysis of customer behavior within the Web site; and the delivery of personalized information to site visitors. Among the content management capabilities touted are the ability to add both metadata and workflow processes to content streams; and the ability to integrate the content management process with external and existing enterprise content sources, including file systems, databases, back end applications, and even other Web sites. For customer analysis the core product delivers both customer segmentation and analysis tools and reports; and for personalization the product offers customer profile management and integration capabilities.

In addition to the core Vignette Content Suite V6 capabilities, Vignette also now offers their Vignette Content Extensions, modular component add-ons that can specifically enhance a particular area or delivery channel of the core suite. Some of the extension modules available include new version releases of previous Vignette components, and themselves include (among others) the Mobile Application Suite V6, the Content Syndication Server V6, and the Relationship Management Server V6.

The latest development to Vignette is the addition of Web Services support, allowing the content management process to be exposed as an Internet accessible Web Service. New Web Services and XML adapter libraries are available for the product, enabling XML Schema, WSDL, and SOAP support.
