Rhythmyx Content Manager, a native XML content management system, is a flexible, easy-to-use system based on pure open standards for automating content publishing to company Web sites.

Each part of the site managed by Rhythmyx is defined through a set of XML content elements called "resources." Content for each resource may come from database repositories, existing live data sources, and external data feeds and files. Rhythmyx uses XML as a "virtual content layer" to assemble the content independent from what the eventual output format will be, and apply relevancy information to target the content to audiences and site areas while also enforcing any other rules associated with content meta-data. Approval processes are applied to ensure content is accurate and appropriate. With Rhythmyx, the same content rules apply no matter how the content is formatted, published or consumed.

To ready data for delivery, Rhythmyx uses XSL to convert the XML file to support client devices, such as browsers or PDAs, to different XML dialects to enable external B2B or E-Commerce applications to use just the "raw" content, or from the vocabulary used internally to any of these external XML vocabularies.
