Aimed at corporations and individual users, askSam is a database and authoring package that has many facilities for searching material taken off the Internet. For example, it allows you to import HTML documents from the World Wide Web, retaining the formatting, hypertext links, and even the graphics. It indexes the pages and allows you to conduct searches of all the information contained in the documents.

Another feature of askSam is its facility for creating Web pages. It makes it easy for beginners to create HTML pages and to export them without needing to learn any complicated HTML commands. It has sample forms for home pages, press releases, product information, and other standard documents.

The user can also import data to askSam from E-Mail. As the vendor explains: "Downloaded messages often contain words like 'To:,' 'From:,' 'Date:,' and 'Subject:' - askSam automatically uses these words as fields which allows you to search, sort, and even create reports from your E-Mail." Previously offered with Outlook and Eudora support, the latest askSam release (4.1) adds E-Mail import support for Outlook Express and MBox mailboxes. Additionally, the new version allows for selective importing of E-Mail headers; and interprets HTML formatting within E-Mails.

The askSam software has a set of pre-defined applications collectively called Internet Desktop for managing Internet information. All the applications may be easily customized for individual use. Other features include: fuzzy searching, pick lists, import to entry form, inserting/editing graphics, and compressing graphics.

For power users and corporations who deal with very large amounts of information, the vendor offers askSam Professional. It has all the features of the standard version, plus full-text searching. With askSam Professional you can search thousands of documents within seconds.

In addition to the askSam product, the vendor has now announced a hosting option that will allow users to publish their askSam DB on the Web. Once published, the database is accessible from any Web browser.
