Atomik is a suite of tools that enables users to extract QuarkXPress content as XML so it can easily be reused on the Web, mobile phones, Interactive TV or any other media.

QuarkXPress is used by millions of people all over the world to create a wide variety of publications from daily newspapers to monthly magazines. Consequently QuarkXPress documents represent possibly the largest untapped source of content for online publishing, with literally billions of pages. With the advent of the Internet, hand-held devices, electronic books and other electronic media, getting this content out of QuarkXPress and into a structured format that can be reused almost anywhere, has become of paramount importance.

Atomik solves this important issue by enabling you to extract QuarkXPress content as XML. There are two key components to the Atomik product, AtomikXT and Atomik Enhancer. AtomikXT is XTensions software for QuarkXPress that tags and extracts the contents of QuarkXPress documents as XML. It does this by utilising the existing styling information contained in the QuarkXPress documents and relating this information to the corresponding element defined in a DTD.

Once the content has been extracted from QuarkXPress as XML, you can use Atomik Enhancer to add additional information, known as metadata, to the XML files. For example you might want to add the publisher's name and copyright details into the XML file even though they were not in the original QuarkXPress document. In this way you are enhancing the value of the content and enabling it to be used in more places by more people.
