RetrievalWare is designed for knowledge workers and assists them in finding information wherever it resides. The vendor states that RetrievalWare can access information across all types of portals, repositories and file systems. It can also utilize indexing, concept and entity extraction and content filtering methods regardless of content type--unstructured, semi-structured and structured. RetrievalWare also features Knowledge Platform Services such as Profiling, Concept Search, Automated and Dynamic Classification, Personalization and Collaboration.

Some of the new capabilities in the latest RetrievalWare release include:

- Distributed indexing: Increased performance for large document collections using distributed, parallelized indexing and configurable real time alerting

- Security: New access control plug-in allows for custom document level security implementations and real time validation. Proxy login through Web Services facilitates portal integration

- Search interface: Search interface deployed as 100% pure Web services and delivered as a reference application for developing customized applications

- Migration: New tools for migrations from earlier versions of the software

- Added platform support including SQL 2005, Oracle 10g, Solaris 10 and Red Hat AS 4
