AskPaul
Index and Search Platform for Public Network Files
AskPaul is a program that will index all public files and automatically create a Web interface for use by all the company employees. There is no information recorded aside from the number of searches performed. All information is contained on the computer that it is running on. In brief, it will index anything that can be viewed using Network Neighborhood. No files that require permissions to access will be indexed.
The vendor states that AskPaul is continuously being updated; currently, it must be installed in C:\AskPaul. Aside from this, no install is required, and no information is written to any other directory or file other than in C:\AskPaul.
There are settings to force indexing of Domains that may be missed, and computers (such as UNIX servers) that are not on domains and therefore can not be viewed. There is also a setting to ignore directories if desired (for example, when you want to ignore backup folders or find a folder that causes infinite recursion).
The vendor notes that this program can only index about 100 million files per Share.
