FactFinder
Performance Monitoring and Management for VMware Environments
FactFinder is targeted specifically to VMware environments and provides for their admins visibility into the performance and interdependencies of individual applications running in virtual machines. The product automatically maps and discovers the applications, connections, and interdependencies of the environments, displaying the results in a visual and drillable GUI interface that depicts the VMs found along with their connections. According to the vendor, the product supports "all major" Windows applications without requiring application setup, with Exchange, SQL Server, IIS, SharePoint, Apache, Oracle, WebSphere, and BEA WebLogic among those specifically listed as supported (the vendor also lists support for "any 32/64 bit" Windows app).
Among the features of the product--the initial offering from new player BlueStripe Software--are the ability to examine service (application) response times and virtual machine utilization; with available metrics including such items as CPU and memory usage (for both Windows and the virtual machine), network communications volume, connections, and more. As mentioned, both real-time and historical data can be displayed, and both GUI displays and reports can convey the collected information to admins.
In addition to its ability to monitor and report performance and cross-server dependency information (the vendor notes that apps can be measured regardless of their deployment across ESX clusters or in mixed physical and virtual environments), the product also includes an "Attention" tab within which are automatically displayed potential application problems, including overloaded ESX servers and constrained host servers, failed connections, and more.
FactFinder is available now, with the vendor stating that pricing starts roughly at $5,000 and usually ends up at a $20,000 price point.
