Immersion TouchSense
For Creating Touch Enabled Sites And Apps
Immersion's TouchSense technology works in concert with compatible hardware (such as Logitech's iFeel Mouse) to convey a sense of feel to the user as they roll the mouse cursor over selected elements of a TouchSense enabled Web site. Motorized technology within the mouse itself interacts with the elements on the page to produce synchronized vibrations that can be felt by the user.
Immersion offers two free development kits for authors who wish to incorporate TouchSense within their Web sites or applications.
The Software Development Kit (SDK) is primarily for application programmers and offers C++ libraries and sample applications, a VB6 toolkit, and the Immersion Studio for creating the actual touch effects. The Studio also contains sample TouchSense effects and wave files.
The Web Development Kit (WDK) is aimed at Webmasters/site authors wishing to add touch effects to their Web pages. It consists of the Immersion Web Plugin (more information below), Immersion Web Designer for the creation of touch enabled pages, Immersion Studio (see above), and tools and extensions for incorporating Immersion's technologies into Dreamweaver and Flash presentations.
In order to experience the touch effects created with the tool kits, users must download the free Web Plugin, which is currently available for both Internet Explorer and Netscape. Additionally, developers must have the plug-in in order to create the effects.
The development kits are free and are available from the Immersion Web site now.
