Numerator! Publish is a collection of Java components specifically suited for the presentation of data on Web sites. Combined, the applets allow both for the automated conversion of data into the XML format required for the display applets, and the actual, customizable display of the data to the end user.

Numerator! Publish is based on the vendor's own RDL--an XML-like language that is used to represent raw data and provides the means for transporting the data to the client browser. The product ships with the ability to convert existing data stores, including Excel spreadsheets, Access or SQL Server tables, or delimited text files into the RDL format; and the conversion process itself can be batched and scheduled to be run automatically at user-specified intervals.

The data itself is displayed utilizing one of four Java applets in the end user's IE5+ or Netscape 6.2+ Web browser, and provides built-in interactive features, such as the ability of the user to change the type of chart displayed, the data elements to be plotted, the data set to be used, or the types of calculations to be employed (e.g., the user can display the original raw data, or percentage differences between data points, etc.). All calculations and redisplays are handled by the end-user's browser; and not the data server (which simply sends the raw data and the display applet to the client).

The actual display applet can be customized by the data provider using an Applet Tag Wizard interface; allowing for the specification of which types of charts should be displayed, which calculations are made available, colors, fonts, legends, etc. Additionally, the provider can allow the user the ability to download the resulting data as HTML tables or Excel spreadsheets, as well as combine multiple datasets into a single display for comparison. The resulting HTML applet tag can then be copied and pasted into any Web page.
