In addition to being V.92 ready, through Actiontec's unique Call Waiting feature, available on all V.92-ready Actiontec Call Waiting Modems, modem buyers will have the ability to screen incoming calls while they are browsing the Web - even before their ISP implements V.92's much-anticipated Modem-On-Hold feature.

Actiontec's acclaimed Call Waiting feature permits users to screen incoming telephone calls without interrupting their online connection. The modem monitors the phone line for incoming voice calls while the user is online and notifies the user, who then has the option of ignoring the incoming voice call or picking up the phone to see who is calling - without dropping the data connection! V.92 Modem-On-Hold expands this feature by putting the modem on hold and pausing downloads for the entire time the voice conversation takes place.

Another feature of V.92, V.44 compression, significantly increases the speed of Web browsing and file downloads. In addition, the maximum upload speed for V.92 modems has been increased to 48Kbps from V.90's 33.6Kbps, speeding E-Mail, data transfers, and Internet gaming. V.92 also reduces the time it takes to connect to an ISP by storing the connection settings and reducing the "negotiation time" required to establish a dial-up connection.

Available in Internal (PCI) and external (Serial) flavors, the Call Waiting Modems incorporate an on-board controller for maximum performance and flexibility. This on-board controller makes modem operation independent of the host CPU. Managing all communication activities, the on-board controller maximizes host processor availability for demanding applications and mission critical tasks including servers, CAD software and advanced 3D games.

The upgraded modems are expected to be available through retailers and Actiontec's own online store at the end of February. The 56K Internal PCI Call Waiting Modem will retail for $79.95 and the 56K External Serial Call Waiting Modem will be priced at $89.95.
