iNotes Web Access

Delivers Notes Based Services To Web Browsers

The Lotus iNotes Web Access client provides a Web browser based mechanism allowing users to access Domino-centric messaging and PIM features from anywhere they have Internet access and an Internet Explorer 5.0+ browser; including their own laptops or publically available Internet kiosks. The server-based product employs a "no-touch" deployment model to the client, allowing for automated delivery to end users with IE Web browsers. In addition to providing an alternate access method for existing Notes users, Lotus points out that the iNotes Web Access client can also be used by ISPs, ASPs, or companies with limited IT resources as a means of centrally managing and deploying Domino based applications throughout an organization without requiring intensive client-side installations.

The iNotes Web Access client features both on and offline processing capabilities, allowing users to manage their personal information while away from their desk even if they do not have a direct Internet connection. Offline features are made possible with the inclusion of Domino Off-line Services (DOLS), which, like standard Notes users, allow the user to synchronize data before they leave the office, work with it while offline, and then re-synch the information when they return. The user can limit the amount of data they wish to "take with them" through options such as specifying the sections, size, or date ranges of information to be synchronized.

Additional key features of the iNotes Web Access client include access to Domino's collaboration tools including calendaring, scheduling, and to-do list management; a secure log-off feature that automatically closes the browser window containing the user's authentication information when they are finished working (so others who use the public access terminal when they are finished cannot access their personal information); and instant messaging, white-boarding, and workgroup collaboration features when used as an integrated tool with Lotus Sametime and QuickPlace.

The Lotus iNotes Web Access client is available now. Suggested volume pricing begins at $48/user. Contact Lotus Development Corp for further information.
