jBrowser

WAP Browser For Java, Palm, And Windows CE

jBrowser is a WAP 1.1 compatible browser designed initially for the PC platform, providing developers with a testing solution for their WML applications. While the developer platform is a Java based solution, the browser has also been extended to be used as an embeddable client application on both the Palm OS and, most recently, on the Windows CE platform, as well. API hooks are provided for the developer for the creation of customized applications on each platform.

The Java based browser is stated to support the full WML specification, with the developer able to select from among pre-defined "personalities" or define their own. Additionally, the vendor states that the browser is also capable of features that may not yet be available on thw wireless devices themselves, such as support for color or large screen displays. WTLS support is available as a separate option.

The jBrowsers for Palm OS and Windows CE are based on ANSI-C based code that has been ported to the specific operating systems. Like the Java version for developers, the embedded versions offer full WAP 1.1 support, optional support for WTLS, and additionally allow the developer to conditionally compile the application, removing support for specific WML features not needed, for the tightest possible implementation.
