Headline Viewer displays syndicated news headlines from hundreds of sources in a clean and organized fashion. Use Headline Viewer as a browser accessory, and scan headlines at lightning speed. Double-click on any interesting headline to open the full story in your browser. Newer features include hierarchical category lists, a drag 'n drop category management tool, and the ability to search within all current headlines. Other key functions include an automatic update feature allowing the viewer to retrieve new and changed providers automatically on start-up, and an automatic language translator. The program is fully skinnable and includes many user-settable preferences.

The Headline Viewer user interface is simple and functional. A top-level list is used to choose a category. Choosing a category shows the news providers in the category. Choosing a news provider within a category shows the headlines for the news provider. Due to the background loading feature, the headlines will typically be ready to display, with no network activity needed. Double-clicking on a headline opens the full story in a browser.

Hundreds of news sources are "built-in" and are displayed automatically, and, with the press of a button, additional lists of news sources can be loaded from UserLand, XMLTree, StartsHere, and GrokSoup, bringing the total sources available to over 3,500. Beginning with version 0.9.5, news provider lists are updated automatically through the Web on start-up. Drag-and-drop can be used to add providers from even more sources.
