Snippets
Smart-Icon Based Digital Dashboard For Web Surfing
Snippets is a Windows based desktop utility that allows Web surfers to organize their frequently visited Web sites into a series of small icons. Unlike bookmarks, however, clicking on a "snippet" will open a small window which displays only the concise and specially extracted information for the Web site in question. Each snippet contains control functions for the user allowing them to control how often new information is retrieved and when it appears on the desktop.
The utility relies on an open, plug-in based architecture which will allow individual developers the ability to create their own snippet modules, either for their own sites, or for collections of sites. Snippets.com promises that a SDK will be available soon to developers wishing to create their own snippets. In the mean time, the existing gallery of downloadable snippets available at the snippets.com Web site includes most of the major search engines, daily cartoon sites such as Dilbert, Garfield, and Peanuts; stock quotes, and news headlines from sources such as USA Today and CNN Interactive.
The Snippets utility is a free 1.5mb download and is available from the Snippets.com Web site now. Also now available is an Enterprise version specifically for use as a centralized information portal application in companies or organizations. Contact Snippets for more information about the Enterprise version.
