NeoPlanet is a Web environment that contains Web browsing, E-Mail, instant messaging, chat, and virtual community applications. Users can personalize their browsing environment through the use of "skins," predefined color and layout schemes that can be applied to the overall look and feel of the software instantly. In addition, Macromedia's Flash player is included with every download, and the software itself uses a Flash-based interface in several of its features.

Web browsing in NeoPlanet is based on channel-based navigation bars, with direct links to over 1,000 Web sites. Later versions of the software also incorporate real-time instant messaging and chat capabilities from Valent Software; as well as a "friends and clubs" feature which allows users to form their own public or private mini-communities, complete with Web pages that offer message boards, chat rooms, and more. By including these most commonly used Internet activities in a single product, NeoPlanet and Valent Software hope to create an "Internet Desktop" for the user. Explains Scott Benson, CEO of Valent Software, "Users can now have the wealth of the Internet's content, communication and community in a single package offering freedom of customization and total ease-of-use."

New features in the latest product release (5.2) include a download manager for tracking and scheduling of Internet downloads, and a new browser companion tool that delivers on request information relevant to the page the user is browsing at the time.
