Oak Grove Reactor 5
J2EE Workflow Process Engine
Reactor 5 is a workflow/process engine deployed in Sun Microsystems' J2EE framework. Reactor 5 uses Java Servlets and Enterprise JavaBeans to automate end-to-end eProcesses via process maps, roles, business rules, external data access, and GUI templates. Programmers can script process elements to perform automatic activities within the process, or to modify the process itself using Java, JavaScript, Tcl, Python, and more.
Reactor 5 Server provides core business logic as Enterprise Java Beans. Services include: process command, process mediation, timer, policy execution, and query. The process command service facilitates creating a new process, editing, changing the state, stopping/aborting active processes, etc. The internal process mediation service maintains and updates the state of the system based on external and internal events. It modifies the state of contingent processes, for example, when the state of another process changes. The timer service maintains planned events within the system, managing deadlines, timeouts, and due dates. The policy execution service provides scripting programmability throughout the system based on object/event pairs.
Reactor 5 services can use infrastructure services such as relational databases, user/role directories, authentication directories, messaging systems, etc., through the Java and J2EE's infrastructure APIs. Business processes can interact with third-party and legacy systems using these APIs.
The Reactor 5 Server is part of a complete suite of process management tools including Reactor5 Studio -- a visual process layout and authoring tool, and Reactor5 Portal -- a Web based process and task list management interface.
Reactor 5 has been tested with IBM's WebSphere, BEA's WebLogic, Borland's AppServer, JBOSS, and now Oracle9iAS.
