Janx
Open Source Java And XML Based Application Environment
Janx is an open source Web application environment based on Java and XML. The platform is deployed as a single servlet on the Web server, and is compatible with any Java Servlet 2.0 compliant Web server platform, including IIS, Apache, and Web Application Servers such as Enhydra or BEA WebLogic.
The goal of the Janx development environment is to allow HTML coders and Java developers to create and modify the areas of the site they are responsible for without altering each other's work. This is accomplished via somewhat of an "XHTML" approach to page coding, where simple to use XML tags are embedded in Web pages by HTML authors. Janx Java taglets retain full knowledge of the HTML structure of the given page, and are therefore able to manipulate individual page elements dynamically when called. The Janx platform comes with a set of basic Janx taglets that can be used for the dynamic delivery of Web sites out of the box, and additional taglets as necessary for each Web application can be developed independently by Java developers and then registered for use in HTML pages. (Note: Janx is not a Java development environment in and of itself; to create the Java taglets for use in the system developers would need a separate JDE.)
Janx is available now in open source form from the Bear River Associates Web site, as is a product demo, Janx documentation, and sample Janx code.
