Application Center 2000

Scale MS Web Applications Across Multiple Servers

Application Center 2000 is a management utility specifically for the application tier of Microsoft based Web programs. It provides for the scaling of Web applications across multiple PC servers; meaning that administrators can increase the availability of an application by simply adding PCs to the server cluster. Unlike the Microsoft Cluster Services (MSCS) found in the Advanced Server version of Windows 2000, the Application center focuses specifically on providing load balancing across multiple servers for the Web and COM tiers of the application (MSCS provides these functions for the data/storage components of the app.)

Administrators can manage and deploy an application through a single application image, which contains all the information the system needs about the application in question and is replicated across all servers in the cluster as necessary. Since the administrator can control the process of duplicating applications across servers, various methods of application staging can be employed (i.e., demos, testing, etc.). Finally, housing the applications on multiple servers provides some level of fault tolerance. When a single server goes down, the application is still accessible to the user from one or more other servers in the cluster.

Application Center 2000 is now available. Initial pricing is set at $2,999 per processor.
