Enhydra 3.0
Open Source Java/XML Application Server And Development Environment
Enhydra is an open source Java/XML application server and development environment written entirely in Java. Sponsored by Lutris Technologies, Enhydra development is enabled through the Enhydra.org organization. Enhydra (and the applications developed with it) can be run on any server which runs the Java Virtual Machine, and once compiled, applications are served through standard Web servers such as Apache or Netscape.
Enhydra provides both an application framework and a complete development environment for the rapid creation of Java server based applications. The application framework provides the author with a development foundation striving to simplify common programming chores. For example, session/state data can be stored between multiple URLs, allowing the developer the freedom to create authentication services and the like in one central location and deploy them across all of the pages that need them. Other features of the framework include default error handling routines that convert standard exceptions into HTML dumps, the ability to execute pre-compiled (HTML, Java, and JavaScript) presentation objects, and JDBC support.
The development environment provides the author with an object oriented development platform complete with ready-to-use makefiles and source control features. Additional modules serve to make the developer's job even easier. The XMLC Compiler will view an HTML page as an XML document and automatically convert it to Java classes complete with methods, allowing HTML coders and Java developers to work together in peace. And the newly introduced servlet debugger (also available as an independent module) allows developers to closely monitor and log servlet requests/responses, as well as automatically creating a trace log of every call into the servlet API.
Enhydra is available now and can be downloaded from the Enhydra Web site. Additionally, the Enterprise version of the code is now available.
