BEA WebLogic Server 7.0

Java Application Server--V7 Now Available

BEA WebLogic Server is a Java application server with Enterprise JavaBean (EJB) support that helps to enable the delivery of highly-reliable Java applications.

BEA WebLogic Server combines EJB with other Java-standard services that are needed for business-critical applications. It offers database integration, event management, remote object access, and directory service integration--bringing together several technologies into a single system. Additional technologies supported by later versions of the servers include WML, XML and SNMP; and an add-on software kit provides support for the EJB 2.0 specifications. Web Services functionality, via support for both SOAP and WSDL, was added with version 6.1.

New features in BEA's upcoming v7 release include:

- J2EE 1.3 compliance

- Developer and administrator productivity enhancements. For developers, the new WebLogic Builder provides a graphical interface for the packaging and deployment of an application via deployment descriptors; and the new WebLogic Security service provides a security backbone that can be leveraged by developers (allowing them to separate security needs from the code logic). Administrators benefit from new wizard-based application deployment components and a graphical Security Policies Editor supporting both role and rule based policies.

- IBM zSeries support

- Application integration enhancements, including Web Services improvements such as automatic Web service interface generation and support for conversational Web services; support for the finalized version of the J2EE Connector Architecture 1.0; and the COM-Java bridging tool BEA WebLogic jCOM.

Version 7 of the BEA WebLogic Server is now available. Visit the BEA Systems Web site for further information.
